Armed with Prayer (4×6)
This month’s message to “Participate in Sincere Prayer” is a great one. Prayer is the only way to communicate directly with our Heavenly Father. I’m so excited about the opportunity to come up with fun things to share with you all this month and hope I can remind myself and the sisters we visit teach to be more sincere with our prayers.
This is a picture that has a silhouette of a female warrior or a female wearing, the “Armor of God” if you will. It also has a sort of “chain” towards the bottom of the image. I loved the quote in this month’s message from Elder M. Russell Ballard of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.
“Every honest and sincere prayer adds another piece to chain-mail armor. One of the most important ways to clothe yourselves in the armor of God is to make sure that prayer—earnest, sincere, consistent prayer—is part of your daily lives.” (“Be Strong in the Lord,” Ensign, July 2004)
I thought it was perfect! We always talk about having to put on the “Armor of God” every day and the scriptures illustrate this perfectly for us. So, when Elder Ballard said that “sincere prayer adds another piece to the chain-mail armor” I just had to make something to enhance that quote. I had totally forgotten about chain-mail and how it would be at the foundation of the armor in order to provide the medieval knights with maximum protection. Of course prayer is at the foundation of our “armor” to provide us with the maximum protection against the adversary. I am so glad he said that!
What is chain mail? Chain-mail (or Mail as it was originally named but modern English has made it more specific in order not to confuse it with regular mail or email) is a type of armour consisting of small metal rings linked together in a pattern to form a mesh. In the 14th century, plate armor began to replace the chain mail worn by knights. However, the chain mail was not completely discarded by the Knights who continued to wear a shirt of chain mail beneath plate armor to protect the joints and the groin. The wearing of chain mail and body armor was an effective means of protection in combat and war for centuries. Read more about Chain-mail armour here.
