Visiting Teaching Message (Oct ’10)
“The October 2010 Liahona and Ensign will be a special issue focusing entirely on temples. The issue will not contain a specific First Presidency Message or Visiting Teaching Message. Home and visiting teachers are encouraged to prayerfully select their message from the contents of this special issue.”
Quote from “The Holy Temple” – By President Boyd K. Packer President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles
No work is more of a protection to this Church than temple work and the family history research that supports it. No work is more spiritually refining. No work we do gives us more power. No work requires a higher standard of righteousness. Our labors in the temple cover us with a shield and a protection, both individually and as a people.
As you can see this month is Temple Month!! I’ve picked out all of the fun printables from the past, that focus on Temples and put them on the RIGHT sidebar so you could pick one to use or get an idea from one. I’ll be designing one for this month during conference.:)
We get to learn more about the Temple, the history about Temples, learn why we have Temples, how we can stay motivated by the Temple, about Temple service, blessings that come from going to the Temple, how youth can also participate in Temple ordinances and more!
Our family is blessed to live in a place where a Temple is literally less than 15 minutes away. I have experienced attending the Temple 6 times in less than 3 weeks and then not attending the Temple in 1 week. Let me tell you, you can feel the difference!!! It’s amazing how much the Spirit can help guide you when you’re always attending the Temple and making time to attend the Temple.
My husband and I have gone from never uttering the word “Temple” because we were afraid that Satan would up his ammo and do everything to keep us from going to the Temple. For example; we would have to send an email whenever we wanted to go and then just plan on going, or we’d have to go at the spur of the moment so he didn’t have time to keep us from going. Sad, I know! But we have learned that it’s not something we need to keep a secret, we must and we now do talk openly about it, and now we plan to go regularly and have so many reminders that it’s almost impossible to keep us from going to the Temple. I love the Temple, the power and peace it brings to me and my family when we make it a part of our lives. My husband and I go to the Temple every other week, but we trade off weeks so that at least 1 person in our family is going to the Temple each week so we can keep that power, peace and spirit in our home and in our hearts as much as possible. If we move away from Temples, I never want to look back and think, I should have gone to the Temple more when we lived so close. My wise Bishop also suggested that we invite someone to go with us to the Temple. Great idea! I am going to strive to invite as many people as I can.
I know some of you can’t go to the Temple as often and probably have to save a lot before you can even afford to go to the nearest Temple, but keeping a current Temple recommend is just as important. That means that at anytime, you are ready to enter The House of The Lord. You’re ready to do the ordinances you promised to do and those you were meant to do. There are so many Temples being built, soon they will be close to everyone.
Each article in this month’s Ensign/Liahona is available to read, download as a PDF or to listen to. What a great opportunity this is for us to fall in love with the Temple all over again. If we can’t go on 10/10/10 this year (because it’s a Sunday and Temples are closed on Sundays), maybe we can strive to go to the Temple 10 times as a family this month. :) I pray I will!
