Oct 2014 #LDSConf Reading Chart

I love watching, reading, listening & re-reading the inspired words of Prophets, Apostles and other General Authorities of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It’s something that brings peace and strength to my life. I loved this story which President Dieter F Uchtdorf shared during Women’s Conference in 2014. I just love love LOVE IT and have to share it! He expresses so much love from the Lord here in this talk (seriously if your sisters need a boost, have them read/watch/listen to this talk!) he also helps …

Reality VT: Do I need a memorable Visiting Teacher?

Real thoughts & experiences by Real Visiting Teachers = Reality VT
When I asked a group of Sisters who their FAVORITE Visiting Teachers were & why? A couple of the responses saddened me but also inspired me.
Sandra said, “I wish I could but in all the years I have been a member I haven’t a v.t. In my home long enough to have one good story.”
Edie said, “Favorites…..the ones that come.”
Why do I feel sad for the Sisters who don’t have memorable Visiting Teachers? It’s good they are consistent, but why not memorable?
Is …

Reality VT: Providers by Molly-Mormon.com

Real thoughts & experiences by Real Visiting Teachers = Reality VT
by Molly from Molly-Mormon.com. Her 2 cents on the message given by Elder Robert D. Hales, Of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, during the April 2009 General Conference titled, “Becoming Provident Providers Temporally and Spiritually”

“As Wives, Mothers, Daughters, and Sisters We Need to Lead By Example And Teach Our Families How To Become Provident Providers Temporally and Spiritually.”
What is a Provident Provider? …joyfully living within our means, being content with what we have, avoiding excessive debt, and diligently saving …

Reality VT: Take Time Reading the Scriptures

Betty Jan Murphy, “Ten Minutes a Room,” Ensign, Dec. 1979, pg 61
After some years of frustration at not being able to accomplish my goals in homemaking, I devised a game for myself that helps our household run more smoothly.
Instead of spending a big chunk of time in any one room of the house at the beginning of each day, I spend up to ten minutes in each room. I time myself by the clock, and when ten minutes are up, I move on. Counting the laundry room, hall, and bathrooms, …

Reality VT: Grateful for Visiting Teachers

I’m thankful for Visiting Teachers! I sometimes get caught up in being a Visiting Teacher that I don’t allow myself to have Visiting Teachers come and visit with me.  I guess, I just know how much time goes into being a Visiting Teacher. I always feel bad having them worry about me. But I have to remember that Heavenly Father blesses all of us for our Visiting Teaching service. How can I deprive those sisters the opportunity for more blessings? How can I say “I don’t need Visiting Teachers,” or …

Reality VT: Scriptures by Molly-Mormon.com

Real thoughts & experiences by Real Visiting Teachers = Reality VT
by Molly from Molly-Mormon.com. Her 2 cents on April’s Visiting Teaching Message to “Search the Scriptures Diligently.”
“I remember as a young single woman, feeling like I really wanted to be able to read the scriptures in a way that would keep me focused on reading, yet, not put me in a position where I felt like I “had” to read them a certain way. I am kind of funny that way
if I feel like I have to do something, chances …

Read the B.O.M. in 30 days & Win!

No Joke! This month’s Visiting Teaching message encourages us to read the scriptures more and make them part of our daily lives. I’ll be the first to admit I sometimes skip a day or two or three and those are the days satan starts to creep in and weaken me. So, for this month I want to read the Book of Mormon in 30 days by April 30th! I haven’t ever read the BOM that fast before nor have I even read it as many times as I’m sure you …

Likening Twilight to a Visiting Teaching Message

Last post for this month. I am sure you all have seen this Visiting Teaching Cartoon going around from 9thWardCartoons.com but I couldn’t resist posting it this month seeing as it is obviously a perfect fit with this month’s Visiting Teaching message. Could be an enhancer too, okay well maybe only for me.

[Click image to enlarge it.] Image Description (for those who can’t see the image above): 3 ladies sitting on a couch in a living room and a lamp on the right. 2 sisters are sitting close to each …

What is being a Visiting Teacher?

Being a Visiting Teacher is a calling us female members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints can have after we become part of the Relief Society (women older than 18 group). The President will assign us a “partner” or “companion” and she’ll also assign us a few sisters of whom we are asked to “watch over.”
“Good visiting teachers know the sisters they visit. They love them, serve them, and help them learn the gospel by the Spirit. They focus on fortifying homes and lives. There is no …

RAK: Serve, so love can grow

Most of us are not assigned to visit teach sisters we know and who we may already be friends with.
In 2004 I was assigned to visit teach Hazel with a companion who couldn’t always come. I didn’t know Hazel at all before the assignment she was a return missionary, so I automatically thought there was nothing I could teach her. What could I, one who doesn’t know the scriptures and gospel as well as she does, teach her. She was also super smart and had a college degree, which I …
